Lore & Background

General Kael is the commander of the Nockmaar army under the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda. He leads the hunt for the baby princess Elora Danan, who is prophesied to bring about Bavmorda's downfall. Kael's forces capture the baby at Tir Asleen, and he personally escapes with Elora to Nockmaar Castle, where Bavmorda prepares a ritual to banish the child into oblivion. During the final battle, Kael slays Airk, the leader of the opposing army, but is subsequently avenged by Madmartigan, who kills Kael in retaliation.

In Their Own Story

General Kael leads the Nockmaar army in pursuit of the baby Elora Danan, who was smuggled out of the castle by the midwife Ethna. He works alongside Queen Bavmorda's daughter Sorsha to track the child. At the cursed ruins of Tir Asleen, Kael's army arrives and captures Elora during the chaos caused by Willow's accidental transformation of a troll into a two-headed Eborsisk. Kael then escapes with the baby to Nockmaar Castle, where Bavmorda prepares to banish Elora into oblivion. During the final assault on the castle, Kael slays Airk, but Madmartigan avenges his comrade by killing Kael.

Reader's Guide

General Kael is a supporting antagonist in *Willow*, serving as the primary military threat to the protagonists. He commands the Nockmaar Hounds and army under Queen Bavmorda's orders. His defining moment comes when he captures Elora Danan at Tir Asleen and delivers her to Bavmorda for the banishment ritual. Kael's death at the hands of Madmartigan provides a key turning point in the final battle, allowing Willow, Sorsha, and Raziel to confront Bavmorda directly.
